From Marrakech to the desert

This is a story of a travel I did in beg November 2016. It was the beginning of winter in France and it was great to find back some warmth when I arrived at Marrakech. Even if the nights were a bit cold, it was still warmer than in France.

After one night in a charming Riad in the heart of the Medina, we hit the road early in the morning towards the eastern Morocco. There was a lot of kilometers to cover during that first day to reach our first stop in Zagora.

First stage took us to the Atlas. As long as we were progressing towards the summit of Morocco, landscapes evolved. Great plains of Marrakech area left place to more rugged scapes. We were entering the Atlas and were quickly gaining altitude. After a hundred or so kilometers we reached the Tichka Pass (2 260 meters).

The view from there was quite stunning and we were even surprised to see some snow on the highest surrounding peaks. Yes, as surprising as it is, it snows in Morocco ! If even snowed in the desert some time ago (very exceptional).
